For the best results, always check our guidelines and print file templates in the File guidelines tab under each product. That way, you don’t have to worry about the right file formats and DPIs—we’ve got it all figured out for you!

We accept print file formats: PNG, JPEG.
For embroidery file formats: PDF, PNG (JPG accepted, but not recommended: design elements in images of this format always have a background which can make the design look bad, and JPG also unnecessarily increases the embroidery stitch count, making it easy to go beyond the limit).
Maximum size of the print area: depends on the product you choose (e.g. the standard print area for t-shirts is 12″ × 16″, but for 11 oz. mugs—9″ × 3.5″).
Print file resolution (DPI): again, depends on the product, but should be at least 150 DPI, and no higher than 300—going beyond 300 DPI won’t improve the print quality, just increase file size.

What is DPI, resolution and actual print file size?

These are a few basic terms to help you:

Resolution is the measure of pixels in the display, usually expressed in measurements of width x height. For example, a monitor that is 1920 x 1080 is 1920 pixels across and 1080 pixels down.

DPI (dots per inch) is the number of dots in a printed inch. The more dots the higher the quality of the print (more sharpness and detail)

The actual size is best described with (you guessed it) actual numbers. Let's say you have a 5”x5” shape at 100dpi, but you need to make it a 10”x10”. If you simply scale it to twice its original size you go from 5”x5” to 10”x10” Since the size has now doubled, your resolution has been cut in half- that particular part of your graphic, is now 50dpi.

NOTE: When you're sending your print design, we ask that they're at least 150dpi and at actual size. The resolution of any file is only as good as the dimensions.

 Flat Embroidery
- Detail thickness must be at least 0.05’’ (4pt)

3D Puff Embroidery
- Detail thickness must be between 0.2” (15pt) and
0.5’’ (36pt)

Fonts (flat embroidery)
- Minimum of 0.3’’ in height for upper case letters
- Minimum of 0.25’’ in height for lower case letters
